This training course aims to give trainees knowledge, understanding and basic skills in equine health and wellbeing. It is about promoting the health and wellbeing of horses by providing the environment and routine treatments that ensure that the horse remains healthy and content. It also involves the recognition and treatment of health problems and minor ailments. It applies to all types of horses and involves caring for horses so that the risk of injury and illness is minimised, it covers being able to recognise and respond to signs of ill health, as well as knowing when to summon professional help. The length of training may vary depending on the objectives covered, the ratio of trainee/instructor and the ability and previous experience of the trainees. The delivery of training covers a mix of both theory and practical elements.
